Welcome to Joanne Merry School of Dance
Principal Miss J. Merry Licentiate IDTA
Situated at the Hardwick Community Hall in Banbury, Oxfordshire, we offer classes in ballet, tap, modern, freestyle and pointe.
We cater for pupils of all ages from 2½ years old and upwards and even run fun adult classes!
Ballet is our most popular class! The little ones enjoy using their imagination and props to encourage them to learn basic techniques and to follow rhythms.
As the grades progress pupils will focus more on technical skills, stamina and discipline.
These classes focus on contractions, spirals, basic floor work, and concepts of space, time and force developing technical proficiency and rhythmic accuracy.
Cheerleading combines a variety of dynamic performance skills. High-energy moves – including tricks, plus motivational cheers and chants – makes this a vibrant and lively dance style - and let's not forget our Pom Poms!
Pointe technique is the part of classical ballet technique that concerns pointe work, in which a ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of fully extended feet within pointe shoes. Pointe work is performed while wearing pointe shoes, which employ structural reinforcing to distribute the dancer's weight load throughout the foot, thus reducing the load on the toes enough to enable the dancer to support all body weight on fully vertical feet.
Tap is a form of dance which uses special types of shoes equipped with metal taps at the bottom. The feet are used to create timely beats and rhythmic patterns.
Popular style of dance, involving runs, spins, kicks and leaps as well as many other diverse steps and movement. A fun way for pupils to use freedom of expression to enhance their style.
